Tiaris guide
Glossary
Understand the accounts, configuration, releases, and installation terms used in Tiaris.

People and management
Section titled “People and management”| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Console | The Tiaris web application used to manage computers, configuration, people, and deployments. |
| Organization | The boundary that owns computers, configuration, and memberships. Check the organization selector before making a change. |
| Organization role | The access a person has in the selected organization: Viewer, Operator, Manager, or Owner. See roles and permissions. |
| Operator workspace | A separate advanced workspace for authorized operators. It is not required for ordinary administration. |
| Sign-in source | A shared local account profile or directory connection that provides accounts on managed computers. Console membership is a separate permission. |
Configuration and releases
Section titled “Configuration and releases”| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| App List | A reusable selection of applications. A Blueprint can use several App Lists, and a list can be shared by several Blueprints. |
| Blueprint | The intended workstation experience: App Lists, Desktop Experience, appearance, kiosk behavior, and the assigned Policy. |
| Desktop Experience | The supported desktop preset selected by a Blueprint, such as Taskbar, Dock, Tiling, or Kiosk. |
| Policy | Organization rules for sign-in, security, networking, access, updates, printing, and monitoring. A Blueprint cannot override Policy-owned rules. |
| Draft | Editable configuration that has not become an immutable Blueprint version. Saving a draft changes no computer. |
| Candidate revision | An immutable Blueprint version prepared for review. It must be explicitly released before it can be selected for installation or deployment. |
| Released version | A reviewed Blueprint version made available for selection. Releasing it does not update a computer by itself. |
| Deployment plan | The exact configuration, component requirements, computers, and stages presented for approval. Work starts after Approve and start. |
| Rollout | The delivery of an approved version to its target computers. A test-first rollout waits for approval before the next wave. |
| Revision | A numbered, immutable saved version. A computer’s assigned, released, and reported versions can differ while a deployment is pending. |
| Runtime | The installed workstation software that supplies the Tiaris Agent and managed installation, update, and verification helpers. Updating the Console alone does not update it. |
For the complete flow, see How configuration fits together and Deploy updates.
Installation and evidence
Section titled “Installation and evidence”| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Tiaris Nest | The local appliance that supplies network installation and software delivery. Its connection and its installation-file readiness are separate states. |
| Nest appliance ISO | Signed media used to install, repair, or recover a Nest appliance. It is not workstation installation media. |
| Workstation netboot bundle | The signed, organization-neutral kernel, bootstrap initrd, and SquashFS files that Nest verifies and supplies for workstation network installation. Also called workstation setup files or the installer runtime. |
| Pairing code | The short code matching a physical computer to its pending enrollment in the Console. |
| Enrollment / adoption | The approval that establishes management of a computer. The installation choice determines whether its selected disk is erased. |
| Configuration check | A system probe that reports pass or drift, with evidence about the expected and observed managed setting. |
| Desktop session observation | A report that a running desktop shows the managed value, is pending sign-in, or cannot be observed. An unobservable session does not prove configuration drift. |
| Decommission | Revocation of management and removal from inventory. The installed system and disk contents remain; it does not wipe the computer. |
See Diagnostics and configuration checks and Reinstall or decommission when these states need action.
